Sector / Industry: CleanTech

ÁrAlap is an innovative water filtration project focused on removing microplastics and nanoplastics from drinking water through a low-cost, biochar-based filter cartridge. The solution aims to provide an affordable and sustainable alternative to conventional household filters and expensive reverse osmosis systems.

The technology utilizes specially engineered biochar produced from agricultural waste materials. Through surface modification and pore structure optimization, the biochar is designed to capture the smallest and most harmful microplastic particles that often pass through municipal water treatment systems. The cartridge can be integrated into existing filtration systems, produces no water waste, and is expected to achieve over 95% microplastic removal efficiency.

The project is currently in the prototype development and validation phase, supported by laboratory testing and intellectual property preparation. In the long term, ÁrAlap aims to commercialize the technology through partnerships with European water filter manufacturers and eventually launch its own branded filtration products, contributing to safer and more sustainable drinking water solutions.
